GlobalSign Lebanon was launched on December 15th,1998 by Dr Salah A. Rustum after having introduced to the Country the Automatic Data Capture, EDI-Electronic Data Interchange followed by a clear outlook on electronic commerce and its prospect. Since then, GlobalSign Lebanon has built a unique expertise in managing digital certification solutions for Internet Commerce Applications. Having issued considerable number of its certificates within the Lebanese Market, GlobalSign Lebanon intends to strengthen its " Trust Credentials " nation-wide and to establish a local presence for businesses.
GlobalSign Lebanon has also integrated a partnership program with the Chamber of Commerce, Industry & Agriculture of Beirut & Mount Lebanon and signed ISP agreement with Inconet & Data management. Also Efforts are underway to sign with all other ISPs serving in Lebanon in an effort to promote the Internet and make use of its colossal benefits.
Moreover, GlobalSign Lebanon has raised awareness amongst the various sectors serving in Lebanon and at University levels as well. Lectures introducing Electronic Commerce supported by the Electronic Signature were made to under & postgraduate students the outcome of that may be described as extremely rewarding and beneficial and tackled several points relating to Internet Banking and other electronic transaction. .
GlobalSign was founded by the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Belgium and Netvision - a leading provider of commercial enterprise-wide Internet security solutions - as BelSign in 1996. BelSign - a Belgian Certification Authority - developed into the GlobalSign network as part of its international expansion strategy in August 1998. The transformation into an international certification network was a logical evolution because BelSign was issuing most of its certificates outside Belgium in other European countries. GIMV, SRIW and SRIB, three regional investment companies, gained participation in October 1997, while two banks joined in later, KBC in October 1998 and ING Barings in May 1999.
GlobalSign has set up an international certification network throughout Europe and is working with partners in Austria, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and the UK, amongst others, and continually integrates other countries inside Europe and beyond in this international network of trust. GlobalSign also deploys activities in Lebanon, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates.
In addition to these various partners all over Europe and beyond, GlobalSign provides the Commission of the European Communities (EC) with its certification services in several projects on a regular basis. Via these EC projects GlobalSign is present in all EC Member States.
Furthermore, GlobalSign is participating in a series of strategic partnerships with IBM Global Network, Microsoft, Netscape, Oracle, Sun, Siemens, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and Lufthansa.
As a certification service provider, the company's main mission is to enable individuals, corporations and governmental organizations to secure business and personal transactions across communication networks by providing Trusted Third Party Services.
